Alto saxophonist Vincent Herring is best known as a hard blowing, Cannonball
Adderley inspired, hard bopper. His first album for Challenge, however, signals a
change of direction and is an impressive take on seventies jazz–funk.
Herring has recorded some fifteen CDs as a leader and some of his notable
associations include a nine year stint with Nat Adderley, membership of The
Mingus Dynasty and bands led by Art Blakey, Horace Silver, Louis Hayes, Jack
DeJohnette and many others. Whilst amassing these impressive credentials, he
has continued to develop his own voice and style as part of his “Earth Jazz
Agents” band who make an exciting debut on this new CD.
