This disc includes complete collections
of songs, fragments and occasional
compositions of different origin and subject
matter. The songs were written roughly
between 1838 and 1869 and are based for
the greater part on poems by Italian poets
like Jacopo Vittorelli, Tommaso Bianchi,
CarloAngiolini and Francesco Dall’Ongaro
or were actually written by Verdi. Several
of the songs are now enjoying their release
for the first time. Verdi’s songs, recorded in
1989, are sung by soprano Renata Scotto and
basso Paolo Washington, accompanied by the
pianist Vincenzo Scalera.
