A wonderful collection of mostly ballads from saxophonist Henry Allen, who gives
us his own personal portrait of New York, reminiscent of the master of ballad Ben
Webster.
This eagerly awaited follow-up to Harry Allen’s first Challenge album ‘Hits by Brit’
(CR73258) proves to have been well worth waiting for. Using the same rhythm
section, with the addition of a fine pianist, Rossano Spotiello, and with the great
John Allred guesting on six tracks, Harry uses New York as his jumping off point
for an exciting journey in music. He performs mainly classic ballads, eventually
going up tempo, with his excellent sidemen being more than supportive.
